Rodriguez won the Golden Boot in the last World Cup after scoring six goals for Colombia in Brazil.
But in a big blow to Jose Pekerman’s side, the 26-year-old attacker has been ruled out of today’s game with Japan.
The Real Madrid star, currently on loan at Bayern Munich, has been troubled by muscle fatigue over the last couple of weeks.
The onus will now be on Colombia’s all-time leading goalscorer Radamel Falcao to lead the frontline in his absence.
Rodriguez’s replacement Juan Quintero of River Plate and Juventus winger Juan Cuadrado will also provide an attacking threat at Mordovia Arena.
