Uruguay vs Portugal
Portugal are somewhat fortunate to find themselves in this round with some big scares in the group stage. Uruguay have diligently gone about their business and have been pretty ruthless too. La Celeste were one of my dark horses for the tournament and that hasn’t changed seeing them pick up 9 points and dominate their group. They’re based on a solid defence, with the partnership from Atletico Madrid putting up just as impressive numbers for their national team – they haven’t conceded a goal in their last 6 games! Portugal struggle in front of goal outside of Ronaldo so don’t expect them to make light work of this. Uruguay meanwhile have Suarez and Cavani going up against the slow and aging pair of Pepe and Jose Fonte. Although let’s be honest, the matchup between Pepe and Suarez will likely be about who can wind the other up the most! This should be a tight game but I can’t see Portugal breaking down Uruguay.
